  • Fallers and brawlers: Dramatic punch-up and catfights break out at Ascot as revellers feel the effects of a few too many drinks (despite Ladies Day getting off to such a classy start)

For centuries it's been regarded as the highlight of the summer calendar for the well-off and well-connected, but the glorious Ascot atmosphere turned sour as brawls and catfights broke out on Ladies Day at Ascot on Thursday.

In a shocking video a man could be seen removing his top before engaging in a fight with a fellow reveller as women, drinks and even a fence became causalities of the heated tussle.

Punters were sipping champagne and enjoying the sights at the famous horse racing event when the topless man crashed through crowds. He appeared to have either ripped his top off or had lost it as other men fought to hold him back.

One woman was knocked to the ground and had her drink spilled all over her as the fight escalated at the ground in Ascot, Berks.

Eventually, the man was calmed down by a crowd who restrained him. Visitor Dan Ingram posted the video on Twitter with the caption: 'GOD SAVE THE QUEEN'. The video was turned into a GIF, which is now going viral.

Her Majesty was also in attendance, presenting the Gold Cup to winner Big Orange while her husband Prince Philip recovered from an infection at home.
